Terms of Use

Last updated: 11 August 2026

English translation of the Turkish original. In case of any discrepancy, the Turkish version prevails.

By using Hatip, you accept the terms set out below. If you do not accept them, please do not use the app.

1. What Hatip is and what it is not

Hatip is an artificial intelligence assistant that attempts to answer religious questions on the basis of reliable sources.

Hatip is not a religious authority empowered to issue fatwas. The answers it gives:

  • are not the official view of any mufti's office, religious official, or the Presidency of Religious Affairs of Türkiye (Diyanet);
  • do not constitute a person-specific religious ruling (fatwa);
  • are not a substitute for legal, medical, financial or psychological advice.

On matters that produce person-specific consequences — inheritance, divorce, alimony, zakat calculation, oaths and expiation, medical situations and the like — please consult a religious official. Diyanet's Alo 190 line exists for this purpose.

2. Artificial intelligence can make mistakes

This is not boilerplate; it is a real limitation. Hatip may:

  • misinterpret a source,
  • misunderstand your question,
  • fail to cover every view across the schools of thought on a given topic.

To reduce this risk, verse and hadith texts are taken verbatim from verified sources rather than from the model's memory, and the source is shown beneath every answer. Even so, verifying answers against their source is your responsibility.

If you notice a mistake, report it — you will help us correct it.

The name, version and licence of the Qur'an text, translation, hadith and catechism (ilmihal) sources used in the app are listed on the Sources screen. These sources belong to their respective owners.

The fatwa texts of certain institutions are protected by copyright; for this reason they are not republished in the app. Only the title is shown, with a link to the institution's own page.

The app's own interface, design, software and the design of the share cards it produces belong to Hatip. You may generate and share share cards for personal use; you may not reproduce the app's design or software without permission.

4. Your account

  • The e-mail address you provide must belong to you and be accurate.
  • You are responsible for the security of your password; do not share it.
  • If you suspect unauthorised use of your account, notify us.
  • One account per person. You may not transfer or sell your account.
  • You may close your account at any time via Settings → Delete my account.

Children under 13 may not create an account.

5. Acceptable use

You may not use Hatip to:

  • threaten, target or degrade others, or incite hostility against a group;
  • turn religious rulings into an instrument for harming someone;
  • attempt unauthorised access to the system, the server or other users' data;
  • send bulk requests using automated tools, attempt to circumvent usage limits, or replicate the service by reverse engineering;
  • present the app's output as an official fatwa of Hatip or a view of Diyanet;
  • pursue any purpose contrary to applicable law.

In the event of use contrary to these rules, we may suspend your account without prior warning.

6. Crisis situations

Hatip is not an emergency helpline and does not replace a professional. If you have thoughts of harming yourself or someone else, please immediately contact:

  • 112 — Emergency Services
  • 183 — Social Support Line (24/7, free of charge)

When the app detects such a situation, it directs you to these lines instead of generating an answer. This is a deliberate design choice.

7. Free use and Premium

  • Free use is subject to a question limit. The limit may be changed according to the cost of the service; any change will be announced in the app.
  • Premium subscriptions are purchased through Google Play or the App Store. Billing, renewal and cancellation are entirely subject to the rules of the relevant store.
  • Refund requests are made to the store, not to us; payment does not pass through us.
  • You may cancel your subscription from the subscription settings of your store account. If you cancel, you may continue using it until the end of the period.
  • A fair use limit may apply to Premium; if the limit is exceeded, the service may be throttled. This limit is shown clearly in the app.

8. Continuity of service

We work to provide the service without interruption, but uninterrupted service is not guaranteed. Maintenance, infrastructure failures or provider-related outages may occur. If we have to discontinue the service entirely, we will notify you within the app a reasonable time in advance and allow you time to export your data.

9. Limitation of liability

The Hatip service is provided "as is". We are not responsible for the consequences of decisions you make in reliance on the information the app provides. To the extent permitted by applicable law, our liability is in any event limited to the amount you have paid us in the last 12 months.

This limitation does not remove your rights arising from consumer protection legislation.

10. Changes

These terms may change. If a material change occurs, we will notify you within the app. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the new terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye. The courts and enforcement offices of «Istanbul» have jurisdiction over disputes. Your right, as a consumer, to apply to the consumer arbitration committee in your place of residence remains reserved.

12. Contact
